I am a Shopify Developer based in Sydney. And I must admit Shopify has grown quite exponentially over the years. Big brands are adapting to the use of Shopify and personally I am a big fan of the platform. There are some limitations with Shopify, but overall it is a great platform to launch an ecommerce store on the go.
What languages or skills are required for Shopify Developer
In order to master Shopify development, there are mainly 4 programming skills you need to have. They are as follows:
- Liquid
- HTML and CSS
- JavaScript and
- JQuery
Liquid
Liquid is an open source templating language created by Shopify, and is written in Ruby. You need to master Liquid to work with the dynamic and data side of Shopify websites.
For example, in order to retrieve data about products, pages, posts, collections etc, you will need to use Liquid templating language.
HTML and CSS
As with any other languages and CMS, HTML and CSS is the forefront of front end development. HTML forms the structure of the content whereas CSS is used for styling HTML elements.
JavaScript
JavaScript adds interactivity and dynamic features to Shopify. JavaScript as with other languages, is used for creating responsive elements, form submissions, third party integrations etc.
jQuery
jQuery as with any other programming language is used for DOM manipulation, event handling, animation etc in Shopify.
Conclusion
Shopify developer is somehow similar to WordPress Developer. It’s really easy to use and set up, but mastering needs a lot of effort..
But if you want to be the best in the field, you have to master the 4 skills above.
Website optimization and SEO Services is another field you can improve on if you want to stand out from the crowd. I will be discussing these in future.
